New generation of heating pumps make substantial energy savings possible
Up to 80 percent reduction in power consumption
While the rent exclusive utilities for private living space has remained constant for years, the cost of utilities has continually increased particularly due to the price trend for the supply of energy. From 2001 to 2005, in Germany the price of energy has increased more significantly than before – nearly 24 percent on average.
With this background, power consumption has become an increasingly central criteria for the selection of electrical appliances. Since the “right”, that is energy-saving product proves to be an effective measure against an unnecessarily high level of power consumption and results in a considerable reduction in energy consumption over the long-term. Those seeking to identify the power hogs in their household shouldn‘t just limit themselves to the kitchen and living room. Few are aware that the greatest resources for energy savings can currently be found in the basement. Experts have determined a potential for cost-reduction of up to 80 percent is hidden in circulation pumps without speed control. The relief of the household budget is made possible by a new generation of heating pumps provided by the market leader in Germany, Wilo. The high-efficiency pump “Stratos ECO”, which was developed especially for one and two-family houses, at 148 kilowatt hours per year consumes considerably less energy than conventional, uncontrolled circulation pumps, which with 605 kWh consume more than four times as much. As such, an annual reduction in costs of 90 Euros on the basis of the current energy prices is made possible. Since rising energy costs remain certain, this difference will become even more evident over the long-term. Unlike uncontrolled circulating pumps, which operate at a fixed rpm during the entire heating season, the high-efficiency pumps adjust their conveying capacity to varying demand scenarios in an “intelligent” manner. The secret to the success of the “Wilo-Stratos ECO” involves a new motor technology characterised by stepless rpm control and efficiency twice as high as conventional motors. It follows that the new Wilo pumps have been awarded with the label for the class A in energy-efficiency, which documents the top consumption values. This energy label has been used to represent energy efficiency of washing machines, refrigerators and other household appliances being categorised from A to G. The innovative concept has also set new standards in terms of noise generation within the heating system: A noticeable reduction in flow noise is achieved by means of the demand-based adjustment of the flowing medium. An appropriately equipped heater performs its duty while producing virtually no noise. According to information provided by the manufacturer, the investment in a high-efficiency pump in single and two-family homes can pay for itself after roughly two years. Using this new technology, the energy bill for the entire building is five to ten percent less than that of houses equipped with conventional pumps. Home owners, who wish to take advantage of these potentials for reducing consumption and overall costs can obtain information at companies specialised in heating technology.
